Gently she plants words
at the beginning
you may call her
Empty Madonna
at the end
that circles around
back
to the beginning
for space
cannot be settled
chairs and feet and hands
cannot
find a resting place
a ground
until the words
which cannot stay fixed
either
enter the white heart
of the woman
who is empty space
who has held
the bird the stone the dirt the grave
the man the child
she who has planted each word
so carefully
becomes empty
loving space
