about brian brooks moving company..............ah..........i love dance. i love grace and strength and power through expressive movement. i read some previous reviews of the performances at mta and noticed that many people in the audience were new to dance as an art form. i am a dancer, choreographer, dance therapist and all around lover of dance as a form of living one's life and sharing one's joy, one's pain, one's ideals , one's despises, one's spirituality. this has been for me , years and years of dancing and seeing other dancers dance. and i mean .....years. i totally appreciate the space in mount tremper. having performed in town hall of woodstock, the world's churches, synagogues, movie theatres, on tables in speakeasies, on tiny stages in nightclubs, and other public spaces, i so gleed in performers owning their own theatre. what a fortunate , exciting experience it must be to live next to your theatre and create and create and share.
Brian Brooks Moving Company, Rapid Still at Mount Tremper Arts
well, the brian brooks dancers are wonderful to watch. he is an interesting choreographer. i was about to have trouble with his solo , because i was dying to see him move his legs, and then , yes, he moved on, using his legs , and i saw the dance as complete and enjoyed it very much. the quartet, danced to bolero was fascinating. i loved the costumes, especially the two men , also dressed in flamenco ladies' dresses, black and lacy and dramatic. great... i , myself, enjoyed this piece, but being a dinosaur, i will have to ponder on it being done without moving on with one's legs. the third piece had everyone flying through the air. i was totally impressed with the dancer who was in the air most of the time. she was truly centered in her body reminding me of asian forms of martial arts. she was lovely and powerful. the group were in tune with her and it was otherworldly to see her move, balanced by their support, and in the air. the ending was perfect, her sitting on the man's back and looking out at the "what". luckily , i live quite near mta and will love to see more dance in its delightful space. its very satisfying to see well trained dancers. this way i can relax and just appreciate the artistic endeavor of the dances. thank you . suzanne kossoy
