Mina Nishimura
Mina Nishimura by Tadao Kazama

Their first duet in 20 years together, The Otherself is a choreographic and relational study of Yamazaki and Nishimura as butoh master and student, husband and wife, and dance artists sharing the same yet different lives. How many of their thoughts and actions are formed by, and for, the other?

Tokyo-born Mina Nishimura was first introduced to butoh and improvisational dance through Kota Yamazaki while studying at the Merce Cunningham Studio. She is a 2019 recipient of the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists.

Born in Niigata, Japan, Kota Yamazaki studied butoh under Akira Kasai. He is a recipient of a Bessie Award, Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists, Guggenheim and New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships, and is a New York Live Arts Live Feed Artist.
